I need to email a PDF with some personal details, but I’ve never encrypted a file before. Where can I find beginner-friendly instructions for protecting it with a password?

That is a sensible precaution, especially with personal details. Adobe Acrobat’s help pages have a straightforward guide: open the PDF, choose Protect, then password protection, and set a strong password before saving a new copy. I usually send the password separately, such as by text or a phone call, rather than in the same email.
