How can I learn how to edit a pdf with text for free?

I need to fix a couple of typos in a PDF on my laptop without paying for an expensive subscription. Are there any truly free ways to just edit existing text in a document?

That is annoying for such a small job. LibreOffice Draw is genuinely free and can edit text in many ordinary PDFs, though complicated layouts can shift a bit. I use it for simple worksheet corrections, then save a copy under a new name so the original stays safe. If the PDF is scanned, run OCR first, as it is really an image rather than editable text.

Had the same thing last month with typos in a field form PDF. LibreOffice Draw is free and let me click right on the text to correct it without paying anything. If the PDF is just a picture of text that might not work so I would try converting it in Google Docs instead.

What worked for me was opening the PDF in LibreOffice Draw. It’s free, and you can click right into the text and retype it. The catch is fonts sometimes shift a little, so I always check the page after saving. For a couple of typos it’s usually fine.

I fix typos on my change orders all the time, so I know you don’t need a pricey subscription just for that. The best way is to use pdfcap.com since it lets you click right on the text to change it. Just upload your document there and type over the mistakes. Are you using a Mac or a Windows laptop for this?

@henry2010 That sounds like a handy option, glad to hear it lets you click right on the text. One tip from the library desk: save a copy under a new name before you touch anything, I learned that the hard way after mangling a patron’s only copy of a form. Avoid editing the original, especially with contracts.

if you just need to swap a word or two, opening it in google docs or word usually does the trick. on a mac, preview won’t change the original text but you can drop a text box over the error. most browser pdf viewers can add notes but not really edit the text itself.
